Jo Mitchell

I’ve worked in education for over 30 years; as a class teacher, Special Needs Co-ordinator, Deputy Head, Head Teacher and a Specialist Teacher. I believe I am compassionate, creative, and resourceful. Finding ways to enable every child to reach full potential and be 'happy in their skin' is my core purpose.

I am deeply passionate about supporting the emotional well being of all children and I recognise that the educational environment is not always helpful for every child. Whilst the systems are difficult to change, I can support children and their parents with strategies to successfully manage them.

What I do

Blending educational expertise and transformative thinking

I've been working in schools since 1992, so I believe I know schools and I know what children experience at school. I've always prioritised listening and problem solving over telling and consequences. I've seen just how much self learning takes place when children listen, reflect and resolve.

So when, in 2018, I started to experience the opportunity for myself; to listen to my inner thoughts, to reflect on where they came from and to understand myself more, I also recognised the profound impact it could have on children and families. It compelled me to establish Nurturing Connections and put what I had learned into practice for others.

I'm an affiliated Presence in Action Coach (PIA), and I use the P6 Constellation framework. What I love about it is that it helps develop emotional literacy and fluency, helping connect thoughts and feelings in a unique way. It fosters self-awareness, enhances the capacity for honest and genuine communication, reduces stress and anxiety, and strengthens connections with others.

It's great for children and parents alike, and when used regularly, it can transform relationships with ourselves and others.
